CREATIVE DIRECTION, IDENTITY DESIGN, GRAPHIC DESIGN, SPATIAL & ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN
Nike LA13.1 is a half marathon supporting women in sport. Something Special Studios partnered with Nike LA to bring the brand’s inaugural event to life. In addition to training to run the race, SSS helped to develop the graphic identity for 13.1 and the spatial design for the race route and finisher’s village. The visual identity was inspired by that of the 1984 Summer Olympics, which not only took place in Los Angeles but also marked the first time a women’s marathon event was included within the Olympic Games. SSS adapted the ’84 colorful palette to create a modern interpretation, representing the running legacy of women in Los Angeles and the community as a whole. Unfortunately, the half marathon was canceled due to COVID-19 health concerns.
