Photographer and director Renell Medrano created ICE magazine—birthed from her creative studio, Ice Studios. The magazine draws inspiration from the ‘70s American magazine Players, which focused mainly on Black culture and societal issues featuring Black women. ICE was created in partnership with WePresent and designed by SSS, and reclaims Players aesthetic, shifting the focus from the male gaze to authentically represent women.

The launch of ICE magazine took place at WSA in New York City. SSS handled the spatial design and print production, creating a bespoke newsstand and gallery exhibition to showcase spreads from the debut issue. The first issue featured 28 women Medrano cast via Instagram, photographed in just two days by an all-woman crew. Renell, along with many of the women highlighted in the magazine, came out in full force to celebrate the community and support the launch.

SSS also handled the print production of the magazine, selling physical copies at the event. Free digital copies were made available on WeTransfer, making it accessible to women around the world. Download your copy here.
