A magazine by Renell Medrano to celebrate New York’s ‘ice girls.’
Renell Medrano’s ICE magazine is a bold reimagining of the 1970s Players magazine, transforming a traditionally male-centric, erotic aesthetic into an empowering celebration of real women. Produced in partnership with WePresent, the arts platform of WeTransfer, and designed by Something Special Studios, the inaugural issue showcases the essence of the "Ice Girl" archetype—women who are unapologetically themselves, blending sensuality, individuality, and strength.
ICE was born from Renell Medrano’s creative hub, Ice Studios, which celebrates the unique perspectives of real women through her creative lens. Medrano is a Dominican-American photographer and director from The Bronx whose work focuses on finding vulnerability in her subjects, drawing inspiration from New York City.
Visually, the magazine blends pop culture references, Black aesthetics, and contemporary design. The issue features striking portraits of real New York women, captured in dynamic layouts. The design balances bold typography with cinematic imagery.
ICE magazine was distributed both digitally and physically—the digital version available for free on WeTransfer and the physical copy sold at a launch party in New York. The first issue is still available for download here.
